Cocteau Twins, “Winter Wonderland”

Tuesgaze 002: Lush - “De-Luxe”

Easily in my top five bands of all time.

Classic Instance 006: The Sundays - "A Certain Someone"

A few parts Smiths, some more parts shoegazing. The Sundays “Reading, Writing and Arithmetic” got me through the summer and will get me through the fall too. I cannot stand the Cocteau Twins (sorry Robin Guthrie, love your production work) but Harriet Wheeler’s ethereal vocals (fantastic pitch) and the pervasive space-jangle of this band is right where I want to be musically.

Top Ten Albums of 2010, #3 – Tamaryn "The Waves"

[Flash 9 is required to listen to audio.]

This track melted my face off the first time I heard it. Tamaryn “Mild Confusion” is a crawling darkgaze bonanza, total nod-out music for those of us stuck in the early ’90s UK (and the HUGE sound is created by a TWO PIECE). “Mild Confusion” was released on a 7” in early 2010 and ended up being the last track on Tamaryn “The Waves”, my #3 record of this year. The rest of the album is full of similarly slow and dark, gauzy indie. Win!

These kids did their homework and probably own lots of Creation Records imprints.
